What is it you do?
"This is a B&B with five guest rooms. The house has been in the same family for five generations, and each room is named after a family member from a particular generation and reflects something of their character."
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
"To be able to share this cultural and natural heritage with my guests is a real privilege. Developing cycling and walking activities is a great way to introduce people to this heritage so that they can appreciate it for themselves. Becoming a Geopark partner would make for continuity in the way I envisage developing my business."
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
"I'm all for it! I have installed solar PV panels, which means that I can use some of the energy they produce for heating. I replace old bulbs, as they go, with LED equivalents. The stair lighting is on a timer. I have had the well rehabilitated so the water can be used for washing bikes, and for watering the garden. For the breakfasts, I use only fair trade and local products, and I use the fruit and vegetables from the orchard and kitchen garden to make home-made jam. I also opted for locally-sourced materials (wood, mud bricks, cob and chalk) for the renovation of the building and the construction of the bike shed.
