The European Geoparks Network (EGN):
In April 2001, the European Geoparks Network signed an official agreement with UNESCO (Division of Earth Science) placing the network under the auspices of UNESCO.
The European Geoparks Network (EGN) is a voluntary network of territories that share a common interest and approach in the fields of protection, development and promotion of their heritage, in particular their natural heritage.In 2024, there were 213 Geoparks in the world.
Each year, the European Geoparks come together at the International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks, which is a perfect opportunity for networking and collaboration among Geoparks. In September 2018, the conference is going to hold in the Adamello Brenta UNESCO Global Geopark.

In September 2014, the Global Geoparks Network is legally constituted as a not-for-profit and non-governmental organisation.
On 17 November 2015, during its 38th general conference, the 195 UNESCO member states ratified the creation of a brand new label: the UNESCO Global Geoparks.
This reveals the importance granted by governments all over the world to the holistic management of exceptional geological sites and landscapes.
