What is it you do?
“This is an urban gîte (CGT rating 3 épis) themed around the movie Scarface. The apartment is a short step from the town centre of Marche-en-Famenne, but the view from the bedroom and balcony is pure nature. There is also a spacious lounge for relaxing. The style of decoration is unique and is bound to make an impression. All in all, you are guaranteed a delightful and unforgettable stay in the capital of the Famenne. The accommodation is housed in a recently renovated 19th century building, which retains its original limestone wall in the middle of the lounge. This keeps the indoor temperature pleasantly cool even in the hottest of summers.”
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
“As a trainee geography teacher, I wanted to make my small 2-person gîte part of a sustainable and eco-positive project like the Famenne-Ardenne Geopark. It matters a lot to me to raise awareness among young people, students and, ultimately,everyone of the importance of our surroundings and the geological and tourist treasures our region has to offer.”
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
“Detailed instructions on waste sorting are provided to help educate guests staying in the gîte. All the interior lighting is provided by low-energy LEDs. We have also produced a number of (paper) guides for our guests to help them explore Marche and find out more about its artisans and traders, its architecture and its local products.”
