Gîte Rural "Il y a"
What is it you do?
"Located 5 kilometres from Marche-en-Famenne, in the village of Verdenne, the gîte "Il y a" is an accommodation for 11 to 13 people for a minimum stay of 2 nights. The accommodation is located in a quiet street in the village, not far from a working farm and near the owners' house. It is a lovely old farmhouse that has been completely renovated and from which you can discover many walks and bike rides."
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
"We have worked as a family for 3 years to renovate and convert the house next door to ours and offer you practical, warm and authentic accommodation. It would be a source of pride for us if our gîte were to be recognised and awarded the Geopark Famenne-Ardenne label, and we would be able to contribute to the promotion of our region and encourage our guests to discover the local culture and environment around our gîte."
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
"In today's world and society, we need to reconnect with nature and our essentials. We need to be responsible hosts and travellers, respectful and open to what and who is around us. In this spirit, we offer you various things, including:
- Organic and local products, delivered on Friday evening on request. Mainly fruit and vegetables from the neighbouring farm au Vert'denne, cheese and yoghurt Vert Eden Fromage made on site by the owner. Farm shop open on Saturdays.
- Nature walks or activities around the gîte and in the language of your choice, in the company of Barbara, a passionate local guide.
- Suggested walking or cycling routes from the gîte (closed shelter for bikes, which are welcome).
- A vast garden surrounding the gîte, where the fauna and flora have all their rights."
