What is it you do?
‘Our gîte is located between our family home and a workshop hosting resident craftspeople. We occasionally organise training courses in the creative professions, as well as themed walks, exhibitions and cultural events. The village of Humain is nestled in the magnificent Calestienne region, so we can share our space and offer you a variety of themed walks. We've tried to offer you a warm and welcoming place to stay. If you wish, I can prepare a breakfast for you using the best local produce in a home-made basket. In fine weather, we open our terrace where you can enjoy a local beer or other thirst-quenching drink.’
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
‘It seems to me that we share the same values and objectives as the Geopark: promoting local products, artists and craftspeople, raising awareness of sustainable development and promoting citizen projects. So it was important for me and for our gîte to be part of an approach like that of the Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark partners.’
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
‘We're working to raise our landlords' awareness of eco-tourism through all the activities we can offer them. We're starting to explain waste sorting to them properly. It's also important for us to promote local products at our breakfasts and through the drinks offered in our bar. We offer our guests a range of walks and activities. It's important for us to promote the magnificent natural and cultural heritage around our gîte and in our region in general.
