What is it you do?
“Le Martin Pêcheur is a countryside gîte for families in search of space, relaxation and rest in a natural setting. The location is very popular with birdwatchers, mountain bikers and walkers. Last but not least, the Marian Shrine at Beauraing is close by. Our focus is on quality: cleanliness, comfort and a cosy, welcoming environment. It is important to us that our guests feel relaxed and happy enjoying the peace and quiet. This is a place to recharge and re-energise.”
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
“We want to become Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark partners because we believe it is important to be part of a project that allows people to reconnect with the environment around themand that helps to protect an outstanding natural heritage.”
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
“All the renovation work on the building was carried out on eco-responsible principles. We have installed excellent insulation and a heat pump (fed by water from our pond), as well as thermal and photovoltaic solar panels. We have also installed a rainwater recovery system. Our aim is to offer our guests an opportunity to reconnect with nature and the surrounding environment, through a number of initiatives such as mini-hikes with a nature guide, a nature exhibition in the common room, and so on.”
