What is it you do?
"We have a really pretty countryside gîte on the outskirts of the village of Heyd. It's a new building made from old brick, which gives it a certain distinctive style. The gîte sleeps up to 12 guests, and has its own wellness space with a hot tub and sauna. It has received a 3 épis rating from the Wallonia region and is already 'Bikes Welcome' approved."
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
"The gîte is surrounded by the Famenne-Ardenne forests, in the commune of Durbuy. The Geopark could be a great help in developing ecological practices. One way could be raising awareness of selective waste sorting among the tourists who stay with us."
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
"The entire wellness space is powered by energy from solar PV panels. The utility room includes a special area given over to waste sorting, with explanatory leaflets and photos. The living room is heated by a wood-burning stove. The main building material used is wood."
