What is it you do?
"I grow old-fashioned vegetables like swedes, parsnips and Jerusalem artichokes. In addition, I also grow more "conventional" seasonal and 100% natural vegetables. Our shop is on the farm premises and opens from 4pm to 6.30pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays."
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
"I was surprised to find my village lay within the confines of a UNESCO-recognised area with Geopark status. I was keen to take advantage of that to introduce or reintroduce people, and Geopark visitors, to the taste of what are now largely forgotten vegetables, and to the importance of eating in harmony with the seasons."
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
"I use no pesticides or chemical fertilisers, just organic soil improvers. In the shop, the only packaging I use is paper bags or reusable packaging. I'm committed to zero plastic! And I am certainly on the side of short supply chains, since I sell my produce direct from the farm or on one or two local markets."
